High Alpha: Stephen J. Torbeck

Hello everyone and Happy Teeter-Totter week!

Last week was another great week as the chapter met another goal and doubled a goal.  We raised approximately 115,000 pounds of food for our international philanthropy, the North American Food Drive.  Our goal was 100,000 pounds and our final total should put our chapter in the top ten chapters internationally!  Another of our goals was to win 2 sorority/fraternity/all campus philanthropy events.  On Friday night the men were paired with the women of Alpha Chi Omega for Geneva Stunts.  The pairing turned out to be a winning combination as they took FIRST PLACE OVERALL, the JUDGES FAVORITE AWARD, and the ORIGINALITY AWARD!  The win was the chapters FOURTH! first place finish in such events.

The following morning the chapter held a Parent's Day Luncheon consisting of the second annual meeting of the Parent's Association and a silent auction.  The new chairs were selected and the silent auction raised just over $500 for house improvements.

This week is our annual Teeter-Totter Week.  During this week we will be riding a HUGE Teeter-Totter for 168 straight hours.  Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, please stop by and donate to a good cause! I am happy to report that in just the first 12 hours yesterday, the chapter raised over $2,000 - setting a new single day total in the history of the event!

This evening the chapter is having its second recruitment workshop of the year at 6 in order to prepare for this evening's IFC sponsored recruitment event, Monday Night Football.  Once again our Director of Chapter Services, John "Biff" Holloway, and our Assistant Director of Chapter Services, Tim Reuter will be stopping by to enhance the chapter's recruitment skills.

On Wednesday night, the chapter is having a "Fraternity History Dinner" with the former Executive Vice President of the fraternity, the distinguished George Spasyk.  George served the international fraternity for over 40 years!  The dinner will begin at 7 and all brothers are welcome to attend.

This Friday is one of the chapter's biggest outings of the year!  We will be going as a chapter to watch the Indiana Pacers take on the New Jersey Nets at Conseco Fieldhouse.  Good times and brotherhood will be had by all!

Lastly, this Sunday will be a long day for the chapter.  At 10am the chapter will be holding a campus-wide pancake breakfast to help raise money for Teeter-Totter.  All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.  Shortly there after we will be having our first of two officer transition meetings.  We plan to set goals and begin the process of installing our newly elected officers at this time.  Finally, the chapter will be having a self-study discussion at 7pm.  The purpose of the self-study is to evaluate the chapter's progress as we move towards terminating our probation at the end of the semester.

That is all for this week!  I hope to see you all soon!

Sincerely,

Steve
