High Alpha: Stephen J. Torbeck

Hello everyone!

Last week went well at Lambda Chi Alpha.  Our Recruitment event was a success, our formal went well, and, in case you had not seen it, we were honored by our alumni with a full-page, color ad saluting our accomplishments in the Collegian!  This week we turn our attention to fulfilling our last goal: a 3.3 house GPA.  Our men are studying harder than ever this finals week and we hope that will all pay off.

Well, we have made it to the end of a great semester and as things come to a close so too does my term as President.  On that note, I would like to thank each of you for all of your support and dedication over the last year.  I speak for the entire chapter when I say we could not have done it without each of you!  Our chapter was never short on guidance and support and for that we offer our sincerest thanks.

This will be the final newsletter of the semester and the final newsletter from me.  I hope that our new President, Joe Bargdill, will continue to keep each of you informed about chapter events and accomplishments.

In my closing words I would like to share with you three conclusions that I have personally made about my career as a student at Butler and as a member of Lambda Chi. First, spirit, pride, and excellence will never be given to you.  Instead, they are achieved through hard work, dedication, and honest brotherly love.  Second, determination, cooperation, and character will always overcome adversity. Even in my  most trying times as a student, as a fraternity member, or as president, I was always reminded that quitting or giving up accomplishes nothing but failure.  And finally, I can conclude that Butler University is a great institution and that Lambda Chi Alpha is a great fraternity.  I am confident that my the right decisions in attending Butler University and in joining Lambda Chi Alpha.  The values and principles that each has given me will shape the rest of my life.  All of you played a crucial part in my growth and experience over the past three years, especially since

the beginning of my term as President.  For that, I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart. I am not sure I will ever be able to express how truly grateful I am for all of your hard work, guidance, and dedication.

It's comforting to know our chapter is in great hands!

Sincerely,

Steve
